House Tour: Japandi-Inspired Design for Airbnb in Chelsea, London

Welcome to our latest project, a serene two-bedroom flat in the heart of Chelsea, showcasing a Japandi Style Airbnb design. Our client, a savvy property investor specialising in Airbnb and short-let properties in central London, discovered House Designer through a Google search. After an initial consultation, he knew we were the right fit to bring his vision of a clean, neutral, and minimalist space to life.

The Benefits of a Clean, Neutral Design for Short Lets

The brief was straightforward: create a clean, neutral, and minimalistic design that exudes understated luxury, while still being practical for short-term guests. The £15,000 budget needed to stretch across two bedrooms, an open-plan living area, and the kitchen, while maintaining high standards of style and comfort. With our Japandi-inspired approach, we were able to strike the perfect balance, making the space both functional and welcoming.

The Living Area: A Calm, Welcoming Space

The moment you step into the open-plan living area, you’re greeted by soft, neutral tones and a harmonious blend of Japanese minimalism and Scandinavian warmth. The curved cream sofa is the centrepiece, designed not only for its aesthetic appeal but also for comfort. This sculptural piece is perfect for relaxing after a long day exploring London, or for guests who need a cosy space to unwind.

A standout feature of the space is the vertical wood panelling on the wall. It adds a layer of texture that brings warmth to the room, while remaining subtle and sophisticated. Paired with the bold black and white abstract artwork, the space feels calm, modern, and effortlessly stylish—perfect for capturing the interest of Airbnb guests from around the world.

The dining area is designed for versatility, featuring a round table with ribbed wood detailing and plush beige chairs that provide a cosy, inviting spot for meals or work. This space easily transitions from a morning coffee nook to a dining area for a family dinner. The open-plan layout seamlessly connects the living space to the kitchen, creating a sense of flow that is ideal for entertaining.

The Kitchen: Sleek and Practical

The compact kitchen is a study in minimalism, with clean lines and modern cabinetry that blends functionality with style. Sleek black accents, a monochrome colour scheme, and practical appliances ensure the space is not only aesthetically pleasing but also fully equipped for short-term guests. The design offers just the right amount of storage while maintaining an uncluttered look, ensuring guests have everything they need for a comfortable stay.

The Bedrooms: A Haven of Serenity

Our interior designers introduce subtle texture without overpowering the serene aesthetic. These rooms were designed to offer short-term guests a space where they can feel at home, while also appealing to a broad range of tastes. Neutral tones were key to making these bedrooms feel both calming and versatile, perfect for Airbnb guests who appreciate clean, uncluttered spaces.

The Design Process: From Concept to Completion

Our client was involved in every step of the design process, from the initial consultation to the final installation. We took the stress out of the project by sourcing and purchasing every piece for the flat, all while staying within the £15k budget. This included everything from the furniture to the soft furnishings, ensuring that each item aligned with the overall Japandi aesthetic.

Once the project was complete, the client was so thrilled with the transformation that he went on to commission us to design three more properties in Chelsea and Fulham. Each project followed the same principles of simplicity, functionality, and style, helping to build a consistent portfolio of short-let properties.

Client Review:

“I found House Designer through a quick Google search and after a consultation, I knew they were the right choice. Their attention to detail, ability to stay on budget, and understanding of my vision made the process smooth and enjoyable. The results speak for themselves—the flat looks incredible, and my Airbnb guests have given nothing but positive feedback. I’ve already worked with them on several more properties, and I couldn’t be happier.”

A clean and neutral design is not only visually appealing but also practical for short-let properties. Neutral colours create a blank canvas that allows guests to personalise their experience, while light tones help make spaces feel larger and more inviting. Additionally, using high-quality, durable materials ensures the property remains in excellent condition despite the frequent turnover of guests.
